AN AMERICAN PHOTO DIARY...
I spent three weeks in the US recently. It was awesome. I ate a lot of food and got to spend lots of quality time with my family who I've sorely missed this past year. My parents bought a new house which we played in and I became best friends with their new miniature dog named Minnie. It was board games every night and early mornings, thanks to my sister's four kids and their early starts. I already can't wait for the summer when we get to go back again.
p.s. wherever you are I hope you're still feeling the holiday cheer.
FALLING BETWEEN THE GAP...
While driving over to downtown St Louis to scout graffiti walls it occurred to me that blogging is a very strange thing indeed. Do I spend my days lazily leaning against paint splattered walls? No. Am I willing to drive across town in search for one to take a picture by? Yes.
When Gap asked me to pick out my favourite items from their current collection to be put into a Christmas wish list I jumped at the opportunity. The brand has long been one of my favourites. Whenever I'm back in the US I make a beeline for their shop to stock up on basics - as I'm sure you already know, they're the best.

Tricia's Varsity Jacket
'Varsity jackets are so in right now, don't you know? Hello, everyone from Alexander Wang to Proenza Schouler has shown them. Sure, they might be all over the high street but those knockoffs ain't got nothing on this little vintage one.' Err, just kidding.

Err, just kidding. When I found this little gem of a jacket crammed on a rail at an antique mall in the mid-west a couple weeks ago my family didn't even look a bit perplexed or seek an explanation. My sister did, however, suppress a gag reflex every time I insisted on putting it on. Whether that was due to her viewing me as a sartorial pariah or the jacket's musty smell, well... I'll never know.
I couldn't bare to leave this item behind so I forked out $12 and left feeling giddy with my purchase. Made from recycled wool, the fabric is so heavy and thick it'll make you sweat on even the coldest days. The hood unzips to reveal 'Tricia', the original owner at the back and the pockets are lined with white leather. It's cliche and, at the moment, a bit annoyingly trendy but I kind of love this jacket.

FLANNEL PAJAMAS...
One of the things I find most frustrating about being away from home is packing...
When I arrive at my final destination things go like this: throw open my suitcase, longingly peer through the contents and then, suddenly, start to panic. Frantically I pull everything out and, defeatedly, start to realize that something has gone horribly wrong. Why did I forget underwear? How did I only pack t-shirts and it's almost freezing outside? No coat and it's winter One pair of jeans that have coke spilt on them from the flight. My packing efforts are clearly delluded and misguided. All this to say, I was pretty excited when I received a pair of J.Crew flannel pajamas last week and discovered the top could double as a real shirt (it gave my weak holiday wardrobe a little boost). Staying in my pajamas all day suddenly became way more acceptable and I like it.

AMERICANA...
Envy.
It's the only word to describe how I feel about my husband's new boots. Sitting on the front porch covered in mud they're the embodiment of all things Americana. L.L.Bean never looked quite so good.
