J.Crew

Being in America is reigniting my love for all things clean, crisp, and preppy. I love J.Crew’s simple well-cut basics in bright unexpected colours – such a refreshing spin on Autumnal dressing. The slouchy meets tailored combinations are pretty much perfection. I’d gladly take the whole lot.

  • Is there really that much of a big difference between American and UK dressing? I haven’t spent that much time there but I think there was… I assumed it was all O.C. or Gossip Girl inspired!

I guess it probably depends where you are… but I’d say UK/US dressing is pretty different from what I’ve experienced. The English are daring and experimental while Americans are more casual and simple. That’s my perception at least. xx

      • I agree that Americans are generally more casual, and also they tend to be pretty uniform. Of course there are exceptions to the rule but often I find American people dress quite “samey”. Then again, if a formula works why mess with it?

  • Looks like metallics and lurex will be HUGE this season, I’m actually not to familiar with JCrew but I always thought it was more of a Gap-y feel instead of having this much colour!
Yah but I think there’s a huge difference between UK and US dressing, well not that we can generalize all the corners of the US into one outfit, but still, I feel that the British have more vintagey feel to their closets…

  • I can’t believe how good J.Crew has gotten! As an American living in the UK, I would agree that we tend to be a bit more casual as a whole, but it really depends on where you go. Also agree that the English are more experimental, I remember being completely overwhelmed the first time I experienced London fashion!

  • Moaaaaan…can i please wear all of that to school!??!

  • I always LOVE the j crew lookbooks. Much more so than the individual pieces, it’s the styling that gets me. Gorgeous stuff!

    • Totally agree! The styling is totally genius. Whenever I go into the shop I’m not too sure what to look at… although, I did find and amazing Timex watch and cream sleeveless blouse when I went. They’re still on my wish list though! xx

  • J. Crew is miles apart from the Gap nowadays, more sophisticated on the whole (at least from what’s available in the US Gap stores). J. Crew has evolved from it’s 1980s classic preppy clothes to the more fashion-conscious styles of its current incarnation. I work two blocks away from the gigantic store in Rockefeller Center and love stopping in to dream about what I’d buy at full price if I had the money… that’s the only painful thing, the prices are still sort of high sometimes, but luckily almost everything goes on sale pretty quickly, so you can get some good deals, and the clothes and accessories do usually hold up to wear very well.

  • I second that!! X

  • I love these looks ! I didn’t know about j crew before..!

  • Mmm… imminently desirable. I want to wear each one of those outfits whole and complete. Perfick!

  • My mother just bought an entire casuals wardrobe there last week! I only came away with a pair of shorts, but I was impressed with the quality of the fabrics compared with what you might get in certain UK highstreet brands…
