BE HAPPY…
Sequins tend to create in me an unavoidable gag reflex.
I just can’t help it – I really dislike the shiny little things. Except, of course, when it comes to Ashish’s sequins. His are glorious creatures. They sneak on to prints that never expected to be covered in glitz, transforming the most basic shapes into must-have drool-worthy pieces. The tie-dye print dress is the one item I cannot get out of my head from the AW12 show. Somehow, it manages to bottle up everything I love about the ’90s. Totally simple but oh-so covetable. If it were mine I’d wear it so often that people around me would get sick at the sight of it. On days when the dress is getting a rest, I’ll wear the biker jacket and face jewelry combination pictured above. You know, for when I want to be low-key.
Oh yeah, oh yeah… face jewelry and tie-dye is wear it’s at.

Platforms & Boots! A winning combination! Reminds me of the Spice Girls days with their platforms!
i have a jacket that’s dyed exactly the same way as that purple one! and it’s denim as well but not as cool as that…
Love this collection! Such a visual treat. I shall revisit to enjoy often.
i love love love the ying and yang shorts and jacket. they must be so heavy, all the sequins. you described perfectly why ashish’s sequins are cool, felt the same but couldn’t really put my finger on it.
How can you not like sequins? @#(*&*($&)!!!! I fell in love with this 80s sequin dress that wasn’t for sale, and it broke my heart! And I think I’m drooling over these pieces, thanks for sharing!

Ahh, sequins always tend to look cheesy and cheap. The whole concept of throwing tacky sequins onto a plain top/dress and instantly transforming it into a ‘going out’ look makes me want to barf.
The 80s sequin dress was cool… most sequins aren’t cool though. Mwaahahaa. I obviously have a deep rooted psychological issue going on here. xx
I’m like a total magpie, if it’s not shiny I’m not interested! So this collection is right up my street and yeah, totally with you on the face jewellery #need
Face jewellery and tie-dye – yes. But Ashish sequin mania – still don’t get it. I know everyone always raves about this show but Ashish never really does it for me… It’s too repetitive maybe.
I feel you – the shapes he uses and concept more broadly (sequins) is quite repetitive.
I’ve always hated sequins so much though. He’s the single designer that has made me CRAVE SEQUINS – I think that’s why I love it so much.
Plus, I love that he uses super strong themes but reinterprets them in a new way. Obviously ’90s grunge, hippy, psychedelic, Asian-influences aren’t anything new… but the way he puts them together feels fresh. Suddenly I’m all about tie-dye and wearing my sweatshirt tied around my waist?! Wtf. The last time I thought that was awesome was when I was 9 and my older sister was doing it.
I love basic wearable items that feel special – that’s the sort of thing I want to wear and want to invest in. Not a dress I’ll wear once and then feel tired of. So, for me, his pieces are really awesome. The shapes are simple and effortless but the prints (and sequins…) make them seriously incredible. xx
Amazing
