a peek at the future?

Now, I know that most of you reading this blog don’t actually know me… in real life. If you did, however, you might know that one of my all time favourite stores is Urban Outfitters. As much as my dreams might be made of Marni and Minimarket, the fact of the matter is that a student (and errr… recently post-student) budget wont get you too far there. Today, when I viewed the Urban Outfitters Spring 2011 collection, I was reminded of just why I have adored the brand for so many years. It has, much to my admiration, grown up right alongside me. When I was in university and wanted to get quirky graphic printed t-shirts they had them in the bucket loads. Now that I’ve moved out of that stage, well just about, I’ve started to discover their boutique brands: tba, Mink Pink, Iro, and Carin Wester. They are beautifully made and seriously covetable. Not as affordable as the mainline collection but the quality and craftsmanship clearly show why…

Ever since seeing the Prada Spring 2011 show I’ve been on the look out for the perfect pair of flat packed wedges. Do you know the ones? They look a bit like you’ve superglued a brick to the bottom of your foot on purpose. I’m guessing some of you might be scratching your head right about now and wondering what I’m talking about. But trust me on this one, they are awesome, and Urban Outfitters are going to be stocking an adorable little yellow pair in the Spring by One Language. Elbows at the ready anyone?

p.s. please excuse the slightly dodge wobbly camera work in the video… it’s a new little endeavour and I’m still getting the hang of it.

  • Hell yes, I love the Prada shoes and these tan flat wedges look awesome too. Did you see the Carin Wester shoes they are selling? They’re kind of expensive, I think because they’re not really a collab but I loooove them. I like the backpack too, nice colors and print. Usually I only look at the sale section to get deals for $5-15 but sometimes the newer stock is really tempting.

My problem with UO and the reason why I don’t want to purchase anything at full price is that often the quality/fabrics aren’t very good. I like a lot of the products design-wise but I’d like to see the company make some changes before I really feel like buying from them. Every once in awhile I find something good quality for a great deal though.

  • UO does carry some really great lines, I’m definitely a fan, especially for shoes.

  • JJ!!!! This is great. I LOVE your video: I love the way you edited it together and also the way the details will start to focus in front of my eyes.

But also I don’t know if people can appreciate that you went to the event late yesterday, did the whole Paddington to Oxford thing (a feat that seemed to exhaust us – Kit was fast asleep on the train, Shini barely got on board) and still managed to upload, edit, and put together this lovely homage to Urban Outfitters.

You caught some of the items I loved most – like those shoes, and, having tried them on, I can attest they’re REALLY comfortable, if they were available now, I’d buy them, defying the no shopping ban and losing both my marriage and probably, my life. But it would be worth it. You also caught some things I didn’t even see.

I loved the way they had the comfy couch & arm chairs: even if there are more events today, it felt right that that one was my last for this season. I’ve always loved Urban Outfitters, too, and I agree: their star is rising even more.

Sorry for such a long comment, but having just turned on the laptop – and not even uploaded yet – I am just so impressed. Lovely to see you yesterday – as always. Happy Thanksgiving, are you going to post an empty plate again? oxo
