A LITTLE BIT IN BETWEEN…
Freezing temperatures have meant that I’ve been staying inside cuddled up under a blanket most days. How did over a week go by without me posting anything on this blog? I’ve just started taking an intensive German class so my mind is tuned into arbeitens and Deutsch instead of fashion. Please accept my sincerest apologies. I still love this blog but I do feel as though I’ve come up against a bit of a brick wall. Does anyone else ever feel that way? I’m not sure what I want to post about and outfit shots just seem so mundane these days. How many photos can you see of me snuggled up in a warm coat? Fashion week is coming up in a few weeks so hopefully that will give me an injection of inspiration. In the meantime here’s a shot of me from yesterday wearing a casual low maintenance outfit. I’m loving burgundy legs and wooly jumpers these days.
Wearing: Laird & Co Hatters hat, Patouf jumper, J.Crew jacket, Topshop jeans, Lilifi clutch and Balenciaga boots.

You’re probably just unmotivated because of the cold! I guess it’s the same with me, I’m feeling a bit meh about my blog and gosh it’s not even as good as I wanted it to be :s I find that having a full-time job means that I have to sometimes force myself to take outfit posts on weekends and just like last weekend, I spent a whole day at home sewing and not dressing up. You’re doing really well with the blog though Jen, and maybe it’s like what Shini said on her blog you all are just going through a phase. Maybe it’s time to take up a new project or something?
PS. I need that clutch. Surely I can wear it with some of my vintage..
Nora
i totally understand you. same here! I have 5 coats – which means 5 outfits in 5 posts for the whole wintertime. how boring!
uff, german? i am happy to be a native speaker, it´s so fucking complicated!
xx

Loving your outfit! Although it still looks a little too cold for me….
I love where you took these photos, one of my favorite walks, whenever I am in Zurich. Enjoy your German class, I know, German is a difficult language, but I like it and it is always good to learn something new! But be advised, Swiss German is different!
1. Loving the hat, you look so Alpine chic! Totally become a Schweizerin now.
2. OMG so happy you’re finally learning German!! Wir können endlich auf Deutsch sprechen!
3. Yup, I feel ya. It seems like a lot of the older bloggers (e.g. 3 years or more) are now starting to feel this way. It’s so hard to know what you want your blog to be…but then just chucking it all in makes all the effort you put into it seem like a waste of time. But maybe it was? Still wrestling with this one.
I love you in a hat SO MUCH! Also I love seeing you multiple times in warm snuggly coats. So exciting you’re learning German!
Girl you always hit the nail on the head, literally last night got so frustrated and just wanted to pack it all in screw fashion week, and the hoops I have to jump through to still land in the same place, but after realised worked too damn hard to let anything stop me, round the corner may be the exact thing that you were looking for and all the hard work will have led you to take the opportunity with both hands and run with it.
Michael has a point reaching 3 years and not where I thought I would be with the blog but need to be more grateful as nothing before its time see you at LFW. XX
Love this look, the sweater, jeans and clutch are perfect. Well done!

Cute casual outfit! I love your burgundy jeans too, and wondering myself what should I wear them with for my future posts.

Ach, language learning. French is my current decade-long tussle, post Japanese. Spanish is next. Then maybe Italian. German looks too formidable at this point, but anything is possible. Good luck with those datives. xo
Low maintenance is actually what i love best!!!
Hey girl! the hat fits you well:) I know what you mean with blogging.. though I’ve ‘re-found’ my love for blogging again by writing about topics and feelings that I really care about.. and only post outfits I really would wear.. still enjoy picking out outfits to wear to shoot. I do a mix of my outfits and take at least 3 hours to get my story right. But focus more on what’s the story behind me? And not just outfits, but who am I? Married, student and a blogger.. and less focusing on events and fashion weeks.. You rock! X
i totally feel you about wanting to just cuddle up in a blanket…. but i had to go cause i was def feeling the bulge in my tummy too…and before we know it, swimsuit season will be here!

a) My German boyfriend has been trying to force me to learn German for the past 6 years and I have a basic grip, but all I can tell you is “viel Glück, ist es nicht leicht.”
b) I feel like Fashion Weeks have turned into more of a ‘who’s who and who’s wearing what’ cahort as opposed to actual focus on the clothes. I don’t see you as one of those ‘I’m only looking for publicity’ people, so hopefully it will do you for a good dose of motivation to keep blogging. Because I love your site and your words (because yes, I actually read them, amazing no?)

I know what you mean about the weather – it’s tough when we have to wear coats… especially when mine are mostly dark coloured! I think we need to outsource blog posts to a hotter climate for the winter months! Keep going, your blog is great!
Winter always makes it no fun to put any effort in shooting pictures because all we wear is thick jackets, gloves and beanies! nevertheless I like this outfit of yours, it’s simple but still stylish and it looks comfortable! one thing I always appreciate a lot seeing on ‘outfit’ pictures.. The hat is pretty amazing, love that color! And who knows… fashion week might give us all a little boost
x
Your Patouf jumper is soooooooo cute!
The cold weather does affect blogging schedule, I hadn’t been able to go out to central cos of the heavy snowfall and low lighting. Instagram is fantastic though, it’s like a second blog to me.
Your style is great and everything looks perfect on You!
Love your blog and I think I know what your talking about…. my posting is very slow lately and I need to think about where I head with my blog… but this “brick walls” are here to make us think and that’s how new Ideas come up in the end. Sometimes a “brick wall” even tells us to go an other direction, they are annoying when they suddenly stand in front of us, but looking back after time, they can be our friends

I hear you. I love your blog, but I’m not a great fan of fashion outfit posts in general. I was in the fashion industry for many years and I purposely chose not to focus on fashion in my blog. I follow bloggers for their personality (*writing) and their opinions – whether it’s about food, style, nature etc…and not what they are wearing in particular. I think that everyone who blogs go through periods when they need inspiration – I think that’s normal. I say document the things around you. Sometimes the simplest things are the most interesting and changing it up could be more fun for you. keep the faith and keep having fun!
Love love love the color of your skinnies and the print clutch!
Trendy Teal
I know what you mean. Its snowing like crazy and taking shots is impossible, and indoor photos are just blaaah (esspecially when the only place I can take them is in office, and that seems even more blaaah than anything). And I`ve missed you posting, I was worried for a second. But now you`re back
Love the outfit head to toe. Boots the most! Enjoy your cosy german lessons
I love the harmony of the grey, burgundy, navy and khaki… Good luck for your german lessons !
life just gets in the way doesn’t it. rocking hat, i’m quite taken by the style
Love your hat and clutch!! Great colours for a snowy landscape. You might not feel inspired but it’s great to have you back and I’m sure I speak for all your follower by saying your outfits are never boring

Sweet Jen… I’ve sensed your lack of inspiration, and not because I haven’t still loved your posts (my fave was the blue fir trimmed coat, beanie, deep red lipstick look- one of my all-time favies of yours, really). I really like Cylia’s comment above, speaking of writing about things you care deeply about, and including your own story. I remember the post you wrote about Jeffery Campbell, which was probably a very touchy and even uncomfortable subject for a lot of fashionistas, but clearly it was memorable and for me, very informative. I loved it. I, for one, want more posts like that. And I always love hearing more about people’s stories, and I know you in particular have an extraordinary one to divulge.
I totally understand you. Sometimes it’s hard to keep the mood to post everyday or the even post at all. But keep strong girl! your blog is lovely and must go on.
the knit is great! love it!
So chic! Your sweater is adorable! x, Kat
Love and Ace
i’ve certainly hit that brick wall a few times myself. love the leopard print against the burgundy pants, very sharp! x
I hope that you are able to get past your wall soon! Burgundy pants, what fun!
I perfectly understand how you feel!! It’s what I’ve called “the blogger crisis”: one day you’re suddenly run out of inspiration. I’m feeling a bit this way right now so I’ve decided to improve the design, add new sections and post only 4 times a week… BTW I like you look!! And yes it’s hard to take pictures of winter outfits when outside it’s below zero…!!

I think, as a lot of people have said, the cold does not help with motivation. I have found myself less and less motivated to do outfit photos as I don’t like indoor shots and am mainly in the office during daylight hours! It’s such a pain. So I have changed the focus of my blog. It seems to have worked and I seem to have content most of the time now.
Love that hat! I really want one just like that!
xx
Pretty jumper

I know what you mean. I just can’t commit to writing a personal style blog. I end up wearing the same thing over and over again. Besides, it’s hard to get a good photo in winter because it gets dark earlier and the skies are always grey. By the way, I love how your outfit with a pair of burgundy jeans. I’ve been thinking of ways of making them work.
I haven’t posted anything since december, blaaaah! I blame january, bleek month! Loves the hat XXX
That jumper is super cute, and I love the hat xxx

Fashion week, huh? You lucky dog… On a somewhat unrelated note, I just have to tell you that your hat is fabulous. And yes, I think we all have moment where we can’t think of a single thing worth saying on the blog, hang in there, do something nice for yourself, take a wee break, you’ll be back in the swing of it in no time. Or, not. Which is totally fine too, right?

My goodness your jumper is adorable!! This looks like it was such a fun trip to be part of – I love my SLR but sometimes it’s nice to have a smaller camera at the ready too.
